Gluten Free Sandwiches at Tesco

At work we have just moved offices which when you struggle to eat in 'normal' food outlets is a bit of a panic.

Luckily I now work in Kings Cross and there are an abundance of gluten free outlets (including one of my favourites...Leon).

I knew there was a Tesco Express on the Caledonian Road, so I searched on google whether Tesco now did Gluten Free Sandwiches...and RESULT, the Kings Cross Branch did.
I just hoped they had some in stock.

Having been quite late to lunch I wasn't putting my bets on that there would be any sandwiches left...but to my surprise there were two left! One Chicken Salad and One Ham and Cheese Ploughman's.

My preference was the Ham and Cheese Ploughman's ... and am I glad I got it.
The packaging doesn't really stand out from the crowd and I stood disheartened for about 5 minutes amid the grabbing of hands.

The sandwiches are made by Tesco but using Genius Bread.

I was very surprised by the taste. My experience of Genius Bread is that it can very easily fall apart and I have never been a great fan of it. However saying this, the bread was soft, but still held itself together.

The filling was lovely, and I have mentioned before about my pet hate for shallow filled sandwiches...but this was deep filled.
I was genuinely surprised as I didn't expect such great taste and texture from Tesco, and all for a great price too. The sandwiches in their Gluten Free sandwich range start at 2.80 and the most expensive (that I saw) was £3.

The Ham and Cheese Ploughman's is £3.00.

The price beats M&S hands down, and even though it is slightly more expensive than Sainsbury's I actually didn't mind paying it (even more so after eating it).

Let's see it in their meal deal soon I say!

Now I do not have a M&S that sells Gluten Free Sandwiches near me I think I am a Tesco convert. I have never really liked their products, but I was pleasantly surprised by them.

Maybe this is the start of a beautiful relationship (fingers crossed!!).

Check on the Tesco Website for those stores that stock it.
