Birthday Surprises, Heights, and a Beautiful View

I am a sucker for a bit of romance, and for my birthday this year my wonderful boyfriend took me to the Shard at London Bridge, the tallest building in London. My word it is beautiful and I was ASTOUNDED.

In the excitement of the surprise, I had forgotten my usual worries regarding what I was actually going to eat...but being the perfect boyfriend he is, he had called in advance to tell them I was a coeliac, and also to check there would be items on the menu I could eat. When we arrived, I was presented with warm gluten free bread; a shock and surprise, although I would have expected this from a Michelin Starred Restaurant. Not only was it tasty, but it was home made, and delicious. Thank the Lord, somewhere I didn't have to be embarrassed when they offered you the bread basket.

I always find myself not wanting to ask for Gluten Free bread when in a restaurant, but most now embrace it, and all you have to do is ask (or look embarrassed and your boyfriend asks for you!!)

The meal itself was wonderful, and I couldn't stop looking out of the HUGE window we were lucky enough to be seated near.

I am not one to brag, but this has to be the BEST view of London, and I loved every second of the experience. They were very thorough with what was gluten free and what wasn't on the menu, and they even made me a meringue swan with a candle.

There are three restaurants at the shard, and this is the Michelin Starred Aqua. If you like cocktails, visit their bar, not only is the view amazing, but the cocktails live up to the price tag (just be careful on the way down!!).
