I started a new role in Euston, London in March 2014. Panic. Where do I eat? Where sells Gluten Free? Will I had to live on M&S Salads for the rest of my days? The answer was no.
A short walk on the Euston Road, and I found myself at Kings Cross, where my manager had told me about 'Leon'. I had never heard of it, and thought he was sending me on a wild goose chase as an induction.
He wasn't and by george aren't I glad he sent me there.
Most hot dishes are Gluten Free, bar the burgers and rolls, but for me having more than one option was the highlight of my year. How had I not heard about this place before?...Was I BLIND? ...The answer is no, I previously worked in Fulham, South West London, where a Starbucks was at least 30 minutes walk away.
My first mouthful of the falafels with brown rice...well that was it. I was hooked. I now take the 10 minute walk to Kings Cross St Pancras branch every week. without fail!
For the first time a few weeks ago I had tasted pecan pie....A PECAN PIE THAT DIDN'T FALL APART. Hallelujah. My prayers had been answered.
Then, one afternoon my manager bought the office bakewell tarts as a treat. My heart sank, I think he could see the disappointment in my eyes as the guys jeered at me because I couldn't have any. The only thing they didn't know was that each and every single bakewell tart was Gluten Free. My eyes lit up and for once, I wasn't left out!
Try, try try away...you will agree...every single one is as good as the last.
Pinky Promise!
