Frank* Honest Snacking

I had been looking forward to these bars coming through the post. Not only because I couldn't wait to try them, but also because I knew I had to run 10k for charity on Sunday 27th July, and these bars were just what I needed!!

The flyer that came in the packet claims they are a good source of protein and release energy slowly.
They are also Gluten Free, Nut Free, Dairy Free and Vegan. There's a bar for everyone!

GREAT. They couldn’t be better for me while I trained.

Having been very unfit prior to training for the Race For Life 2014 in Hyde Park, fitness, eating well and training has been a priority for me over the last few weeks. My best mate and I wanted to run the race in under an hour in order to get as many donations as possible!
We set ourselves the target of an hour in order to push ourselves but also it was practice for the next challenge....a half marathon!

The blueberry flavour was the first I tried. Actually it was very nice. Not at all what I expected and something that I would eat again. I especially liked the layer of dark dairy free chocolate over the top.

I had never thought of protein bars or any type of natural energy supplement before, but actually it is probably something that I needed.

On Sunday, it was an early wake up call, 6.30am!! I thought a Frank* bar may help…I was hoping this would give me some sort of sustainable energy for the 10k (Although I was praying for a miracle at this time of the morning)!

Getting ready for the Race for Life Hyde Park!

I tried the strawberry flavour. It tasted like most other fruit flavoured protein gluten free bars, but the chocolate on top gave it a little something extra. The texture was actually ok, normally protein bars can be a bit grainy and unpleasant.

I enjoyed it and hoped for the best!

We finally completed the run in 59.56, 4 seconds under our target time! What a result!  We also raised more than half our target before the race, and are well on our way to reaching the rest of our target now. I don’t know if the bars helped or if it was a combination of adrenaline and Lucozade, but we made it round and that is the main thing!

We Finished! in 59.56!! 4 Seconds under our target time!

After the race I tried the Gluten Free Oat bar, which actually I preferred to the Strawberry and Blueberry!

I think I have found a favourite and a winner!

The one I will be buying again is the Oat bar.

Rating:

7/10 I will definitely be buying the oat bar again!
