Fria Grova Dark Loaf (with linseed!)

I had never heard of Fria before, as they are a Swedish based company. When I saw them at the Allergy show what attracted my boyfriend first to the stall was the gorgeous Chocolate Brownie Cake.

It was actually one of the best brownies we tried at the show, and it was very moist and didn't crumble at all, it was even gooey in the middle!

I spoke with Monika at the show, who does all the PR work for Fria. we had a great chat and she gave me some bits to try and review. So far I have only tried the Grova bread, which is actually very very nice.

It seems rather hard when you first touch/squeeze it. This is because it has been deep frozen. You should keep it in the freezer and defrost when you need it.

The slices are quite small in size (as with most Gluten Free Bread) but once toasted the slightly hardened exterior gives way to a much softer springier bread.

The texture was great, it was crispy on the outside and spongy in the middle.

Just how I like my toast :)

It wasn't like usual bread which either breaks up before you have had a chance to put it in the toaster (Newburn Bakehouse GF bread especially from my experience) or is very dry and hard once it comes out of the toaster. It is also a suitable thickness...not too thin, and not too stodgy.

It had a great taste too, there was something different in the ingredients and I couldn't quite work out what it was. Then I checked the packet...Caraway and linseed! I knew I recognised the flavour!

Like with most Gluten Free bread you have to toast it whether you want to or not. I only say this because I don't have time to defrost the bread before eating it (usually because I am running around like a headless chicken in the mornings)..I usually just put it straight in the toaster!

I haven't tried making a sandwich with it after defrosting, this is next on my list, but I have been told it makes a great sandwich!

Maybe the size of the slices need to be a little bit bigger to get more than a few mouthfuls of bread at one time (only because I am greedy and wanted more!), but I enjoyed it.

My favourite snack now is two slices of Grova bread toasted with avocado! Not only is it a good pre gym snack, but great for breakfast too...:)

Where can I buy Fria products I hear you say?

There are quite a few stockists in the UK...and you can find your nearest one by following the link below.

Or you can order online.
